Job Summary

The Content Writer/Editor creates and edits primarily written content for one or more branded websites. In this blended role, the person alternately writes, edits and fact-checks evergreen content, blog posts, news articles and graphics for style and accuracy. Some days are dedicated to researching and writing original pages, blog posts and news articles about cancer or cancer-related topics. This is not a management position and will report to a Content Lead.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Edit evergreen web pages, blog posts, news articles, social media posts and PR pitches for one or more branded, lead-generating websites
  • Edit content for related affiliate websites
  • Edit guest blogs written by staffer and freelancers for affiliate sites
  • Facilitate new ideas, tactics and strategies related to storytelling, content presentation and outreach
  • Research evergreen pages, blog posts and news articles for a variety of excellent, lead-generating websites that support business objectives
  • Write evergreen pages, blog posts and news articles that digest cancer and other medical topics into easier-to-understand concepts
  • Write occasional feature stories about people, businesses, etc.
  • Curate content and ensure an efficient process for getting that content onto one or more of our websites
  • Fact-check and line-edit copy with accuracy and efficiency
  • Uphold company’s high content SEO standards
  • Work with digital marketers (Marketing Lead, SEOs, Marketing Director) by executing content and outreach strategies that align with company goals
  • Work across departments with web designers and SEO specialists about the content you produce

Additional Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ghostwrite occasional content for external blogs and websites
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the latest topic developments and trends by finding, reading and understanding studies, news articles and press releases
  • Work with other departments to ensure that the content on our websites is excellent for our business purposes
  • Connect with industry experts and develop sources for original and unique content
  • Provide regular content ideas and quarterly goals for yourself and others, including ideas for infographics and for content in other mediums
  • Provide basic SEO to all that you write, including title tags, meta descriptions, hyperlinks to related pages and blog posts, and sources
  • Promote (y)our content across a variety of social media platforms
  • Participate in bi-monthly content meetings and in monthly team meetings
  • Prioritize projects and tasks set forth by the Marketing Manager
  • Work in a project management system (Wrike)
  • Work professionally and effectively within a team environment that includes a content marketing lead, an editor and a project manager
  • Solicit and write guest posts for related outside blogs and websites
  • Communicate and work collaboratively
  • Self-manage, drive initiatives and execute tasks to completion
  • Have a talent for prioritizing
  • Hold high standards for self and for others on the team
  • Work an eight-hour workday, Monday through Friday, in an office setting with occasional work-from-home days
  • Embrace change


  • Four-year degree in Journalism, English, Advertising, Marketing or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in content-related field, including at least 3 years as assigning editor, copy editor or website/publication editor 
  • A basic knowledge of modern SEO (title tags, meta data)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a CMS such as WordPress
  • Knowledge of AP and APA styles
  • Knowledge of Google Gmail and Google apps
  • Time-management skills
  • Proven ability to work in MS Word, Google docs and other G Suite apps
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to self-edit and apply editorial feedback
  • Ability to sit at a computer for an eight-hour shift with breaks


  • Professional journalism experience
  • Owning a personal website or blog
  • Experience writing about health- or cancer-related topics
  • A familiarity with Google or other website analytics
  • An intimate knowledge of WordPress
  • Having a positive social media footprint
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
